A new generation of incremental encoders
This new range of encoders is innovative for more than one reason. Its performances in terms of temperature, frequency response, mechanical resistance, its original design allowing a great deal of flexibility of use and mounting, bring the European standard to a higher level. They designate the new MEYLE encoder generation as high quality sensors for various applications Square-wave or sine-wave output signals One of the advantages of the new range MHM / MHO is its capacity to adapt to multiple configurations and applications. These encoders can deliver digital square-wave or sine-wave output signals in 1, 2 or 3 channels, with their complements for all available resolutions, even the highest. High resolutions For the square signals, the internal interpolation in the encoder electronics brings the resolution up to 80 000 cpt. Additionally, for applications requiring high precision, for example machine-tools, the sine-wave signal (available in up to 5000 cpt), could be intepolated by the consecutive electronics and thus the resolution could reach several millions of counts per turn. Programmable resolution The programming of the resolution is done in very simple way by “commuting” dip-switches, without specific hardware, nor software. Just by using a small screw-driver you can program resolution multiples of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12 and 16 times the basic resolution of the optical disc. This considerably increases the flexibility of use of the encoders. Universal circuitry The priority has been given to the flexibility in the field of the electronics, too. In fact, the encoders are available with the largest supply voltage range presently available on the market: from 5V DC to 30 VDC. The output stages are either in push-pull 4.5-30 VDC, or in regulated 5VDC RS422. Another source of flexibility is the fact that for the push-pull version the output signals are compatible RS422 if the supply is of 5VDC –0/+10% thus covering a large range of applications. Frequency response up to 1 MHz The standard frequency response of the encoders is 300 kHz, a level well ahead the actual European standard. For high resolutions and upon request values of 1 MHz and more could be reached. European standard mechanics The encoders from the new range MHM / MHO are available in shafted and hollow-shaft versions in order to cope with the requirements of all type of applications. The shafted encoders, with shaft diameters of Ø6 and Ø10 mm have mechanical interfaces considered as European standard. They are compatible not only with the other generations of encoders from MEYLE, but with most of the products available on the market as well. The hollow shafts are available in standard shaft diameter of 14 mm, the other diameters are achievable through the use of aluminium reduction hubs of Ø 6, 8, 10, 12 mm. Large range of accessories A large range of accessories is available for the different types of mounting, adaptation and replacements : flanges, couplings, mounting brackets, measuring wheels, connectors, cable assemblies, etc. For the hollow shafts, for example, the mounting of the encoders is done with an anti-rotation device, which could be mounted on both sides of the encoders, body or cover, thanks to its original design. There is a possibility to use an anti-rotation pin, which could be mounted on the cover or on the body side of the encoders, too. The original desing allows a completely reversible mounting system. The sealing flange, another interesting innovation, allows to achieve very easily high degrees of protection IP 67 on a standard product with protection IP 65, just by adding it on the face of the encoder in less than a minute. The better sealing is also guaranteed by the fact that the connectors or the cable gland are molded in the cover of the encoder and not added/screwed. Again, the original desing of the encoders allows double or triple mounting of the encoders by clipsing them into each other. These double or the triple mountings are necessary in case two signals with different resolutions shall be delievered or if redundancy of the signals is required for more security. A range of robust and performant encoders The MHM / MHO series continues the strong tradition of MEYLE in manufacturing encoders for heavy-duty applications. The robustness is achieved through the use of very rigid bearings, allowing very high axial and radial loads for this type of encoders. On the temperature side, the operation of the encoders is guaranteed within a range between –30°C and +100°C. The use of a new generation of LED, with high level of controlled light emission allows trouble-free operation independant on the temperature conditions or the ageing of the LED. Flexibility of use and multiple application possibilities The options with programming possibilities and its surprising simplicity, the easilly achieved high levels of protection, the reduction hubs for the hollow-shafts, the large field of possible applications, included “heavy-duty”, the electronic circuitry having the largest supply-output possibilities presently available on the market and last, but not least, the excellent technical performance, make the MHM / MHO range the range of encoders fully adapted to the needs of customers and distributors having to manage multiple resolutions and configurations on stock. The “simplified” versions, exactely as performant from technical point of view, but having fewer options, are designed to satisfy the needs of the large accounts with an excellent price/performance ratio.
